When Stephanie and Lance Reddick got engaged, the bride only had two priorities in mind for their June 2011 wedding. “One was that everyone had to have fun,” says Stephanie. “And the other was that Lance couldn’t see my dress before I walked down the aisle. That was it.” This low-key approach led to the couple’s dream wedding, which was filled with surprises.
The first big decision was the wedding’s location. Lance is an actor who’s appeared in movies and TV shows such as Fringe and The Wire, so the couple spends a lot of time in California. However, they first met in 1999 when Stephanie was working at the Guthrie Theater and Lance was acting in a play there. That’s one reason why they chose Minnesota, Stephanie’s home state.
“We did everything at Bar Lurcat in Minneapolis, from the ceremony to the reception,” Stephanie says. “We had people coming in from out of town, and I didn’t want to make them go from one place to another. And Bar Lurcat is so stunning. We actually changed the date of the wedding just so we could have it there.”
The venue came will all sorts of benefits. The vast food selection included sea bass, fried cauliflower, and several custom desserts for guests. “One of our gests had a food allergy, so the staff at Bar Lurcat went above and beyond to make sure there were gluten-free dishes,” Stephanie says. The bride also loved the space for the ceremony. “The staff changed everything around so I could walk down the stairs in the mezzanine. We had the ceremony in front of the restaurant’s big windows, which was gorgeous.”
When it came to the flowers, the bride left all the decisions to her florist, Mickey O’Kane. “I told her I didn’t care what the flowers were as long as they were pretty,” Stephanie says. “She suggested peonies, because they were in season at the time. I didn’t even know what color the flowers were going to be until the day of the wedding, and they turned out just gorgeous.”
As for the dress? “I found it online for $250, including shipping,” Stephanie says. “Lance picked it up at the post office, and it fit perfectly. My favorite moment of the wedding day was when my mom saw me in my dress and she started crying.”
