A year after launching a lipstick collection inspired by local women, Twin Cities' beauty entrepreneur Becky Sturm has added five new shades to Stormsisters, and I’ve been lip smacking Miranda ever since. The new shades range from a clear semi-gloss to a shimmery violet plum. Each lipstick is named for a “sister” in Sturm’s life—some related by birth; all related by beauty. She says her lipstick namesakes are women who have been influential to her brand one way or another. Proud to say there’s an Allison in the original collection, and Sturm says that plummy/sangria shade continues to be one of her top sellers.
Sturm has spent the past year toting her tubes and mirrors to countless local events, and a few stores—helping women find their perfect hue.
“I heard a lot this past year from women who don't wear lipstick, but they all use some manner of a balm,” Sturm says. “Many of them often said that I should have one, and put it in my beautiful tubes, so, I did. It is by far, my most popular 'color' with this collection.”
Other than the balm—named for Amy Wellen—each of the new shades has an element of shimmer to it. Erin—named for Knoke’s chocolatier Erin Purintun—is a frosty golden brown. That shimmery violet plum is Sandy, for legal assistant Sandy Lindemann, and my new favorite Miranda, named for the owner of Mirabella Studio in Woodbury, is described by Sturm as a “shimmery, sultry mauve.”
Try them for yourself at one of the Uptown Minnesota stores at the airport or Ridgedale Center. Stormsisters will also be at the Knightsbridge Boutique event on Nov. 14, and the collection is also sold online.
