Have no fear: in Edina, a tan is always near. GoGlow is opening a custom spray tanning shop at 50th & France in July in the former Nani Nalu spot at 3922 W. 50th St. That's just a few blocks away from its competitor Glow Lounge, at 45th and France.
GoGlow was founded in 2010 by Aveda Institute-trained makeup artist Melanie Richards as a mobile-only service. Tans at your doorstep remain a major part of the business, but GoGlow has been expanding its bricks and mortar presence, operating out of Sola Salons in Uptown and Woodbury. Edina will be the local company's first solo storefront. The tanning boutique, located in the former Nani Nalu space, will feature four individual custom spray tanning rooms, a private event space and a retail area. Custom sunless tans are $45 in store; $65 on the go.
Trying a sunless tan for the first time? Richards offers these tips:
- Exfoliate 24 to 48 hours before your appointment. A sulfate free exfoliator won't leave residue on your skin, which can impede the tanning process.
- Drink lots of water. Hydrated skin holds and retains a sunless tan better.
- Avoid other spa treatments the day of your sunless tan. Again, you don't want oil on your skin.
- Wax or shave at least 24 hours before your appointment so the solon doesn't fall into open pores and appear darker.
