The foodscape in St. Paul just keeps getting hotter. There’s an edgy buzz to the indie eateries opening, like Payne Avenue’s Cook St. Paul and Ward 6. Lowertown clinched it this year as a foodie destination, with Handsome Hog, Dark Horse Bar & Eatery, and Saint Dinette adding new dimension for farmers’ market–goers and ballpark fans. Many say West 7th is the next North Loop, with stalwart Mancini’s holding strong and newbies like Brake Bread, Mucci’s, and Bad Weather Brewing Company drawing new faces to the street. Here are some other changes coming to our capital city next year.
Fitzgerald’s will serve up pub food and have a full bar in the old Salt Cellar location in Cathedral Hill.
Blue Plate Restaurant Company’s Scusi on St. Claire Avenue is now Bottle Rocket and will have a new menu and a full bar.
Chef Max Thompson reinvents his 128 Café in Merriam Park with a new name, Stewart’s, and a simplified menu of small plates and chef-driven cocktails.
From the Happy Gnome guys comes Augustine’s Bar & Bakery on Selby.
Tori Ramen will bring chicken ramen to North Victoria Street, just off Selby.
Keg & Case, the indoor food market, will open in the old Schmidt Brewery building.
Pajarito will cook up chef-driven Mexican food on West 7th.
Revival St. Paul will open next to Solo Vino with its fried chicken goodness in the Selby-Dale neighborhood.
Kurdish restaurant Babani’s will open a second location where the Wabasha Street Deli once was.
The Glensman Northern Irish Pub will bring Irish to West 7th.
The new gastro pub, Brunson’s Pub, will open on Payne Avenue.
J. Selby serves up veggies and vegan dishes in the same building as Tori Ramen on Victoria.
The Lexington on Grand Avenue makes our list again this year(!) as scheduled to open soon.
