The Kenwood
Maybe the success mantra “location, location, location” should be modified to “neighborhood, neighborhood, neighborhood.” The one that hosts the new Don Saunders place called The Kenwood has been heavily awaiting its open. The small space The Kenwood occupies, next to Birchbark Books, has never been very successful with its various cafés in the past, but Saunders is making an effort to win over the locals by offering a full day’s worth of eating. He’s open early in the morning for the heading-to-work pastries-and-coffee crowd and follows that with an everyday brunch menu that works well for the leisure lunchers. Mid-afternoon is carried by noshy small plates before launching into a dinner menu that showcases Saunders’s deft hand with seasonal ingredients cooked humbly with fine technique. If the neighborhood doesn’t claim it quickly, I can think of many others that would jump at the chance. 2115 W. 21st St., Mpls., 612-377-3695, thekenwoodrestaurant.com
