Hockey Legends and Burgers
The new Herbie's on the Park in St. Paul honors hockey icon Herb Brooks—and it's done right with walleye cakes, burgers, and (his favorite) Hamm's beer.

I half expected my server to tell me to get on the blue line at the new Herbie’s on the Park, the restaurant created by the Wild organization to honor the late, great hockey icon Herb Brooks. Instead, I was greeted with Minnesota walleye cakes and a Herbie burger, which you should order with a Hamm’s beer—the favorite brew of the collegiate, pro, and Olympic coaching legend. Located in a turn-of-the-century building near Rice Park, the room has oak millwork and marble accents befitting of hockey royalty—but it’s not over-the-top glitzy. Not many new places seem to fit so well into their surroundings, but Herbie’s feels like it’s just been sitting there waiting for us to report to camp.
