At tonight's Friends of James Beard Foundation dinner I found out a little bit of news.
Chef JP Samuelson has exited the freshly opened 6Smith in Wayzata for the executive chef job at Kim Bartmann's Red Stag Supperclub in Nordeast Minneapolis.
"I'm really excited, I can't wait to get into that restaurant and use some of the great ingredients and purveyors that have a relationship with the place," Samuelson mentioned. Bartmann was at my table and said about the news, "I think it's going to be a great fit, couldn't be happier to have him with us." There might have been more chatter about it if we weren't busy stuffing our faces with amazing food.
For this dinner he put up a hearty dish of Peterson Farms Limousin short rib, braised in tomato and tamarind with pickled papayas on a swish of grits. A great starring course to a stunner of a dinner.
Samuelson starts in Nordeast on November 1.
