Cupcakes or a tiered cake? Why not both?! John and I do not mess around when it comes to dessert—it's our thing. We knew right away that we wanted to have cupcakes at our wedding, and when we found out that Angie with Cherry on Top Confections could do French macaron–topped cupcakes, we knew it was a match made in heaven! Who in their right mind would say no to a mac-cake?!
Our tasting was amazing. We were greeted by the cutest setup and tons of delicious flavors to try. We had a hard time picking our favorites, but the grand slam was by far the s'mores mac-cake: a chocolate graham cracker cupcake with a toasted homemade marshmallow and a s'mores macaron on top. It was to die for! We knew this would be our signature cupcake.
While we love our cupcakes, the more I thought about it, the more I felt a little bummed that we didn't have an actual cake to cut—and my mom was not shy to say that she thought we should have an actual cake too. Unfortunately, Cherry on Top doesn't do tiered cakes, so we were on the hunt for another baker that could make a small three-tiered cake without breaking the bank.
With our inspiration picture in tow, I turned to the Minnesota Brides Facebook group to ask for recommendations. When someone suggested The Thirsty Whale and said they were fairly new, I decided to send them an inquiry.
We received a response almost right away. We loved their unique flavor offerings so we set up a time to meet with Meghan. It was an amazing tasting—some of the best cake we've ever had, with great prices to boot!
In the end, we compromised to have the best of both worlds: an intricate three-tiered cut cake, as well as enough mac-cakes to feed a village! Between Angie with Cherry on Top Confections and the team at The Thirsty Whale, we know that our wedding sweet treats will be a hit!
