Selecting our reception site was one of our first major wedding decisions. We knew we wanted to choose a place that would be easy and convenient for all of our out-of-town guests, hopefully have lodging either connected or close by, and have some killer ambiance to boot. Several months prior to our engagement, I attended a sorority brunch at Oak Ridge Conference Center. (From this point forward I shall only refer to it as Oak Ridge . . . conference center just sounds so stuffy!) ;) I honestly had never heard of if before, and I was super impressed that such a great place is kept under the radar. Anyway, the brunch was a hit and I stored away that location as a little nugget for the future. After Nate proposed, I knew that Oak Ridge was on my top list of places for us to tour.
Oak Ridge is located just a quick 25 minutes away from the airport/downtown Minneapolis, and is easy to find. The building itself is quite a sight to behold. The entrance had this grandiose feel, and yet at the same time feels intimate and inviting. One half of the building is all hotel rooms, and the other half is conference/banquet rooms. Right smack in the middle is where our reception will be held. Our back drop is ceiling to floor windows, which frame Lake McKnight.
For Nate and I, Oak Ridge was love at first sight. In addition to the view, location, and attached hotel, we were immediately sold on their 'almost' all inclusive package. I LOVED this idea. They offer three different wedding packages, all which include a wedding planner, decorations, center pieces (of your choice), and a beautiful gourmet cake with all sorts of different options. (They actually had a sample totally decked out in peacock feathers!! If only I could get Nate to commit. . .) They also offer an hour host bar, butlered hors d'oeurvers, champagne toast, four different meal options with servers, all your linens, a bridal suite, and on top of everything else they are known for some of the best customer service in town. SOLD. Our reception, for the most part, will be semi stress-free! I can't imagine spending the day worrying about coordinating vendors, making sure decorations are set-up/removed, and keeping an eye on the cake. I think so many people choose destination weddings for the ease of planning, and I love that we found a little slice of destination easy breezy in Minnesota!
