Radisson Blu at Mall of America
Real Bride Caitlin chose Radisson Blu Mall of America for her venue—and her "something blue."
One of the most fun parts of planning our wedding was picking our venue. At first, we had no idea what type of venue we wanted. There are so many options: barns, hotels, event centers, restaurants. The more we talked, the more we realized that a hotel would be the most logical option since we are getting married on New Year’s Eve.
Once we decided we wanted a hotel, we sorted our venue priorities into wants and needs. We needed a place that could handle both our ceremony and reception, allow us to party late into the night, offer a room block for guests, and serve outstanding food (as that was one of our biggest priorities). We also wanted a ballroom with a neutral color palate so our color scheme wouldn't clash, as well as a free shuttle service for guests from the airport, so they won't have to drive in our harsh Minnesota winter. This quickly narrowed our options down.
We did some research and set up our first few tours for one day. I had a designated "venue tour" notebook that I brought to each location so I could take notes. I wrote everything down: maximum capacity, rental fees, food/beverage minimum, pros/cons, and inclusions/exclusions. We made sure to take pictures of each venue as well. Doing this really helped us with making our decision.
Deciding on a venue ended up being much easier than we anticipated. The Radisson Blu was one of the first venues that we toured. We instantly fell in love with the hotel, but we didn't want to commit too soon. But the more venues we toured, the more we realized nothing even began to compare to the Blu.
It had everything we wanted and needed in a venue: a free shuttle, capabilities for both the ceremony and reception, some of the best food in Minnesota, gorgeous hotel rooms, and amazing places for photo opportunities, just to name a few. Plus, we get our own event coordinator, who has been an absolute dream to work with (shout out to Kristen!). Through working with her this past year or so, she has become a very dear friend of ours.
Needless to say, we are beyond pleased with our decision to go with the Radisson Blu! The venue and its staff are second to none. Plus, we love the fact that we were able to cross two things off our list: our venue and our something "blu." It is so hard to believe that we will be getting married there in less than five months!
