While Carly channels her inner calm with about one week left before the wedding, Chris put together some highlights of his experience during the engagement.
The First Weekend
After I proposed, Carly and I spent a weekend up at her parent’s cabin home on Lake Washburn, Minnesota. We spent the Fourth of July weekend with her family and friends, which was a really nice way for us to absorb the big life changes and relax in the sun and watch the fireworks over the lake.
The “Man Shower”
I am part of a weekly men’s Bible study that with a generous group effort put together a group of gifts for our new house. In addition to all of the tools I could ever want, the group also pitched in and got me a three-in-one drill, circular saw, and electrical saw attachment. This was a great surprise! Now we'll have some tools to make any fixes to our new house.
The Bachelor Party
My two brothers and good friends put together two days of all the stuff I like to do for my bachelor party and I could not have been happier with the way the weekend turned out. On Friday night we went to Benihana with the group for some great Teppanyaki-style cooking. While Carly and her bachelorette party were out at the breweries, my bachelor party went down to the Minnesota Horse & Hunt Club for an afternoon of clay target shooting. We finished the afternoon with some lunch at the lodge (the elk burgers are awesome) and caught The Wild game on TV.
The Groomsmen Gifts
When I started thinking about the gift for my groomsmen, it was difficult to come up with good ideas. As it happened, I had the good fortune of being contacted by David Burke, the founder of Great Lakes Clothing Co., who essentially dropped a gem of an idea right into my lap: a dual brand (Great Lakes Co. + Mill City Fineries) custom necktie. Great Lakes recently moved into a co-op office on the outside of downtown along with Mill City Fineries—the two companies are based in Minnesota and their products are American-made. As David and Matt pointed out, this allowed me to get something for my groomsmen that they could reuse after the wedding was over. I am excited to give my groomsmen this unique gift on May 9.
