After Sam and I got engaged, choosing my bridesmaids was one of the first tasks I checked off my to-do list. We knew we wanted a smaller bridal party, so between my sister, my future sister-in-law, and my two best friends since high school, I was set. These were four people who had witnessed and supported my and Sam’s relationship from the very beginning, and I knew I wanted them by my side through each step of our long, 18-month engagement.
I searched Pinterest for creative ways to pop the question (a dangerous move—there are too many ideas out there!), and decided to make my ladies “bridesmaid boxes.” My mom and I spent an evening painting wooden boxes from Michael’s in our navy and orange wedding hues, and then filling them with fun goodies, such as nail polish, lotion, colorful candies, and miniature bottles of apple pie liqueur. I wrote, “Will you be my bridesmaid?” on the inside lid of each—or, in the case of my sister, “Will you be my maid of honor?”—and delivered each one in person. They all said yes!
Some of the items I filled my bridesmaid boxes with.
It was a fun DIY assignment to take on, and I love the way they turned out, but I quickly realized I am not a DIY-wedding type of gal. I think I’ll be leaving decorating and crafts to the pros going forward.
