In high school, I was the type of girl who loved the prep work that went into formal dances like prom and homecoming—spray tan, nails, hair, makeup, you name it. I didn’t get the opportunity to treat myself often, so going all out for special occasions was something I relished.
I knew my pre-wedding routine would be no different, and I was determined to surround myself with some of the best in the business.
I am very pale, and since my wedding is at the end of October, I knew what little sun-kissed glow I gained over the summer would be long gone. But after a pretty terrible experience with a spray tan in high school, I was hesitant to alter the color of my skin on the biggest day of my life. To calm my nerves, I decided to do a trial run with The Glow Lounge, and it was unlike any tanning experience I’ve ever had! Yes, it was a little awkward stripping down to the disposable underwear they provided, but it was worth it. The technician I worked with was very thorough, and the result so natural! Pro tip: For bridal parties of four and up, you get 10 percent off your tan and a complimentary bottle of champagne!
As a nail-biter, I always opted for acrylics when I got my nails done, but since we’ll be adventuring in Hawaii for 10 days on our honeymoon, I really didn’t want to deal with the fakes. Instead, I broke my habit of biting and will be getting gels for the very first time from A La Mode Boutique & Nail Spa.
Over the years, I’ve dyed my naturally brown hair everything from light blonde to red to nearly black, but for my wedding, I wanted to go back to my roots (literally). I’ve been working with Shannan at Phresh Spa Salon for about eight months now to achieve the perfect, natural-looking balayage. For the day of the wedding, however, I wanted to hire someone who could work onsite at our venue, the Minneapolis Golf Club. So after some positive recommendations from friends, I hired SM Makeup Inc. to do hair and makeup for my moms, my girls, and me. I had my hair trial last week with Gia. I’m not super picky when it comes to my hair—I just want it to look good!—so I was relieved when she took my ideas, told me why they wouldn’t work, and then showed me an updo that was even better. It’s classic, but still has a unique twist that I haven’t seen before.
I have my makeup trial this evening with Amanda from SM Makeup, Inc. Although I have plenty of ideas (dramatic eyes to go with my dramatic dress, a dark berry lip), I’m going in with an open mind. I truly believe in trusting the professionals, so I can’t wait to see what she comes up with!
