Photos by Athena Pelton
Although I’m not a photographer myself, I know the difference between someone who’s truly talented and someone who just happens to have an expensive camera. A camera is just like a paintbrush—it’s nothing special unless it’s in the hands of an artist. So, when I started thinking about our wedding photography, I was out to find the artist who could best capture our special day.
I’m so happy (like, ridiculously happy) to have Athena Pelton on board as our wedding photographer. She’s an artist through and through, and her creativity knows no limits. I am 100 percent confident in her ability to tell a story with her camera, and I love scrolling through her blog and seeing all the other wedding stories she has captured.
I don’t have a Pinterest board full of photo ideas and I’m not setting aside a few hours for photos with the wedding party. What I am doing is letting Athena tell the story of the day I married the man I love. I want to look back and remember the way I felt and be reminded of the energy and joy of the day. I don’t want a thousand pictures of Nate and me standing pretty, looking poised and practiced. I want the laughter, the tears, the imperfect, and all the other unplanned, special moments from the day.
Some brides try on dress after dress, and once they find that perfect one, there’s no more comparison and no more need to keep looking. That’s how it was when I saw Athena’s work. She was far and away the best photographer for us, and I never reconsidered it. The excitement has been building and building as the wedding day gets closer, and I love knowing that I’ll have Athena’s photos to look through even when the much-anticipated celebration is long since over. I feel so lucky to know her and to have her involved in my wedding. Now, let March 7 just get here already!
