My fiancé, Sam, did an amazing job choosing my engagement ring on his own (with a little help from his mom and my Pinterest board), but I was happy to learn that it did not come as a set. I wanted wedding band shopping to be a task we tackled together. So on May 5, celebrating the one-year anniversary since Sam popped the question, we made a date to choose the rings we will exchange at the altar.
We honestly didn’t consider any other jewelry shops besides Shane Co. Sam had such a positive experience there when choosing my engagement ring, and I’ve enjoyed chatting with the friendly staff every time I go in for a ring polish and checkup.
I’m a big fan of the matchy-matchy look, so I knew I wanted a band that played off of the round and baguette diamonds on my engagement ring. I wasn’t sure what would look best with the halo split shank design, so I took my time trying on both straight and contoured options, as well as bands with and without diamonds. As soon as I tried on the round diamond contour wedding band, I knew it was a perfect match. I plan to have them soldered together after the wedding, to prevent the two bands from rubbing against each other and wearing down. And I love the idea that Sam can purchase a band for the other side of my ring for an anniversary or big milestone in our lives.
To my surprise, Sam didn’t want a plain white gold band. Instead, he wanted a ring with some textural details. Shane Co. took some time walking us through all the different types of materials available for men’s wedding bands before we narrowed it down to three together. Sam then asked if I would make the final decision. I chose a band with a cross hatching design that had been my favorite from the very beginning. I would’ve loved to keep it a secret until the big day, but we need to bring all of our rings into Shane Co. about two weeks before the wedding to make sure everything is properly sized. To still give him that element of surprise, however, I staged my own proposal while we were on a Memorial Day Weekend vacation, which he loved.
It was so much fun to choose our bands together, and now that we’re only 45 days out, we’ve been itching to final wear them!
