I love our venue for many, many reasons, but one of the biggest perks to choosing the Minneapolis Golf Club for our ceremony and reception is that its staff handles all food and beverages onsite. Sam and I definitely wouldn’t consider ourselves “foodies,” so food wasn’t super high on our list of wedding priorities. It was a relief to skip the step of searching for a caterer and trust the menu designed by MGC's executive chef.
When we first booked the venue, we heard from friends and co-workers who had attended weddings at MGC—and the abundance of five-star reviews online—that the food was always delicious, but it wasn’t until our tasting at the beginning of June that we got to try it out for ourselves.
The staff greeted us with champagne and led us to a table, which was already set with four salad options. Nancy, the coordinator, talked us through the components of each one, then disappeared for 15 minutes to let us taste and chat about our favorites (spinach salad with warm bacon vinaigrette, ermahgerd). Next came the entrées. Prior to our meeting, Sam and I poured over the menu, choosing four meals to taste: salmon, walleye, chicken, and steak. One-by-one they were brought to the table, each accompanied by different sides and a white or red wine.
Everything was delicious, so I was surprised by how easily Sam and I made our decision (we are usually pretty indecisive people!). With so many out-of-town guests, we really wanted to showcase Minnesota culture, so walleye was our first pick. And since both sides of our family are big meat-eaters, we knew a filet mignon would be well received by many.
We also chose some very fun hors d’oeuvres for cocktail hour, which I will leave as a surprise for guests for now, and figured out just how much alcohol we would need to serve 160-plus people (fewer kegs and bottles of wine than I thought!).
Before the appointment was over, we did a walkthrough with Nancy. This was my favorite part, because we really got a glimpse of how our wedding day was going to look. We made decisions on everything from where the cake will go to what color napkins we want, and we left that appointment even more excited for the big day. I can’t believe the next time we’re at MGC will be days before we become husband and wife!
