No detail was missed—the couple even used ceiling installations to complete the space.
You could say that football brought Maureen and Liam together. Though they both attended the University of Notre Dame, it wasn’t until five years after Maureen graduated that she was introduced to her future husband during a weekend of cheering on their alma mater in Chicago.
“Within the first days of meeting Maureen, I knew that we had an incredible opportunity,” Liam recalls. “Most anybody who’s spent time around her knows how incredible she is, and I’m no different.”
Though Liam proposed while they were living in Virginia, the couple knew they wanted to get married in Minneapolis, where they would end up moving a week before the wedding. “We liked the idea of a downtown wedding,” Maureen says. “We wanted to show off the city for people who had never been here before.” After securing The Basilica of Saint Mary for the ceremony, they chose the Machine Shop as the reception space for its warehouse feel and abundance of windows to let in the summer light.
Imagining a wedding that felt “natural,” the admittedly indecisive bride relied on her wedding planners to help bring her vision to life. Using a blue-green hue that Maureen had fallen in love with as a springboard, the wedding planners crafted a day filled with white blooms, plenty of greenery, and hints of copper.
The day of the wedding, Maureen and Liam wanted nothing more than for their friends and family to have a great time. Turning to the band Northstar to provide live music, they distributed sweatbands—which Liam brings with him to every wedding he attends—to guests, encouraging them to stay on the dance floor all night long with the newlyweds.
“My favorite moment was when Liam and I were introduced for the first time at the reception,” Maureen says. “That’s when I turned into celebration mode. I was able to relax and have fun and spend time with all our favorite people.”
