As lead designer for floral company Munster Rose, Kelsey has experienced her fair share of weddings. So when her boyfriend, Lance, popped the question with the help of their dog, Ruby, at a family cabin near Brainerd, she already had a vision in mind.
“I had an idea of the certain types of flowers I wanted, but working with different color schemes every weekend and seeing so many different designs, it’s hard not to love everything,” Kelsey says. “But I always knew I wanted something more organic.”
Flowers in blush, orange, and ivory hues accented the greenery that was heavily present throughout the day—from the bouquets to the ceremony arch to the reception ceiling installation. Even Ruby donned a collar made of greens. It all set the stage for the sophisticated-yet-casual vibe Kelsey and Lance hoped to achieve at the Minneapolis Event Center, chosen for the intimate atmosphere it created for the couple’s 150 guests. “We wanted to keep people near the bar and dance floor as much as possible,” Lance says.
On the day of the wedding, personal details helped tell the couple's story. An escort-card board directed guests to their seats, where they were met by wooden table numbers, gray (rather than standard white) pillar candles, and a box filled with chocolate-covered cherries. Favors in the form of beer can koozies alluded to weekends spent at the cabin, while a popcorn bar and late-night pizza capped off the evening. “We incorporated the fun things we like to do in our daily lives into the wedding, but in a stylish, classy way,” Lance says.
The one thing Kelsey hadn’t planned on was rain, but it made for some pretty incredible pictures, especially their first look. “It was lightly sprinkling,” says Lance. “So the photographers gave us some umbrellas and it was a fun picture she captured of us seeing each other for the first time.”
