After an eight-year absence from the Twin Cities, Spark Letterpress has returned with a storefront in Minneapolis. Owned by Valerie Carlson and Jim Watne, the husband and wife team has spent the better part of the last decade growing their international brand of custom stationery from Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Now with 125 retailers around the globe carrying their products, they’ve returned to where it all started, and are ready to serve local brides. “Part of the reason we wanted to move back, in addition to a lot of things that just made business sense, was just missing the ability to work with local clients,” says Carlson. “South Dakota is a much smaller market, so there’s not as much opportunity there to work with local brides. In the Twin Cities, there are people with larger budgets and just more enthusiasm for letterpress and custom stationery than we found in South Dakota."
To celebrate their return, there will be an open house this Wed., July 23, from 4–9 p.m., where attendees will have the opportunity to check out the new storefront and learn more about the printing process. Twin Cities couples can also take advantage of a 20 percent discount through Nov. 31, 2014.
"Really, we’re just so excited to show people what we can do,” Carlson says. “Some people have heard of our line because they’ve seen us at various retailers, but some people are new to us, so we’re just really excited to share all of our designs with everyone."
