Here's the latest by our Mpls.St.Paul Weddings guest blogger and contributor, Kolina Cicero:
Mark your calendars for a unique wedding fair coming up this Sunday, November 14 at the Varsity Theater in Dinkytown.
The Independent Wedding Association, a group of local and independent wedding vendors, is hosting their second-annual fair, “Something New.” Local musicians will provide live tunes in a relaxed atmosphere, while wedding professionals will demonstrate their products and services. Brides- and grooms-to-be can meander around the fair and meet with the hand-picked vendors, including Cocoa & Fig, Jennifer Whalen Photography, Posh Bridal Couture, and more. Find a complete list of vendors here.
New this year is “The Not So Real Wedding,” a one-hour faux ceremony and reception that puts vendors to work to show us what they've got. The "wedding" will include 15 minutes of cocktails, a mock ceremony, cake, and dance instruction . This brief wedding demonstration offers a sample of the vendors’ work, including their services and creative style. The 2009 crew of vendors is pictured at right.
“We are hoping that this will be very different from typical wedding fairs, and more like a cocktail hour with friends—who happen to know a lot about weddings,” says Independent Wedding Fair organizer Becca Dilley.
The “Something New” wedding fair runs from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $10. The “Not So Real Wedding” starts at noon, and admission is an additional $5. Get tickets and more information.
