Angela Ferrara sees it all. As product developer for Pear Tree Greetings, she sees lots of couple's customized wedding stationery created on their site, so she's got an eye for trends and those unique touches that make an invitation or save-the-date stand out.
"I don't believe that there's anything wrong you can do in making your invite as long as you reflect your personality as a couple," says Ferrara.
And with Pear Tree's custom options, it's easy to play around with colors, photos, and fonts online. Not only has the internet made searching through and customizing stationery easier, but it's also allowed couples to create their own websites and potentially do all the inviting online. But Ferrara isn't worried that will replace paper mail any time soon.
"People love to get mail and when that piece of mail isn't junk mail, it's exciting and thrilling and you open it immediately," Ferrara says, adding, "And that's what you want as a couple when you're sending out your invites, you want someone to get excited."
Ferrara says the hottest trends right now that add excitement and personality are integrating photos into the invitation and using unconventional shapes such as these save-the-dates below.
Plus, with customizing just a click away, couples can create invitations that match their wedding colors and not the other way around.
But her favorite invite of all is their tri-fold, Sweet Calligraphy photo option. Ferrara says she loves seeing the live samples come in: "There's a paragraph where the couple can write how they met or whatever they like." And with two spots for photos, notes Ferrara, the invitation lets you use some of those beautiful engagement photos you took.
Based in Mankato, Pear Tree is just three years old and its selection of stationery continues to grow. Ferrara will be working on a new batch of wedding invitations this December, looking to add more photo options and even story-based or timeline invites.
