by Sheri Hickey Since same-sex marriage became legal in Minnesota, a number of wedding businesses have voiced their support for the bill by offering up free or reduced services to same-sex couples. Now, Chowgirls Killer Catering is the latest to jump on the bandwagon.
Beginning Aug. 1, couples are invited to take part in Chapel of Love, a three-day event hosted by the award-winning caterer at its Northeast location, Parlor. Guests will enjoy a private ceremony—officiant included—that features appetizers such as blue cheese, honey, and lavender-covered wine biscuits, as well as a champagne toast in Parlor’s intimate vine-covered courtyard. Co-owners Amy Lynn Brown and Heidi Andermack wanted to bring same-sex couples a boutique personalized wedding experience that would commemorate their special day without the hassle. “We thought, ‘How can we make this day more exciting and give a better experience to same-sex couples rather than going to a courthouse?’” Brown says. Two options are available: Parties of 12 or fewer can enjoy the ceremony for $250, and those looking to invite a few more friends and family—up to 24—can purchase a $450 package. While their goal is "one wedding per hour" to spread the love to as many couples as possible, spots will fill up fast, so reserve yours by calling 612-203-0786 or inquiring online.
