Bridal Fashion Week took place in New York City last week, and if you can't join 'em, then just follow 'em on Instagram. Local feeds such a l'atelier couture (@lateliercouture), a & be' bridal shop (@aandbe_bridalshop), Che Bella (@chebellaboutique), and Bridal Accents Couture (@bridalaccentscouture) offered a glimpse behind the scenes. Here's what we saw.
1. Designers are taking the plunge. Again.
Deep-v necklines made an appearance in a big way at last season's bridal market, and it was back again in full force. Designers such as Reem Acra, Naeem Khan, Inbal Dror, and Marchesa all dipped down for a sophisticated alternative to strapless.
Watercolor and floral prints took some floor time on the runway, offering brides a colorful alternative to the classic white dress. Romona Keveza, Randi Rahm, and Elizabeth Fillmore all stepped outside the box in the most romantic way.
That's right. The pant suit a la Biana Jagger made its way down the runway. Designers such as Carolina Herrera and Houghton added a modern twist to their collection with this unexpected surprise.
4. Crop Tops.
Two-piece numbers may be a fad, but for the bold among us, it's a fad that makes a statement. Karen Willis Holmes, Mira Zwillinger, and Theia all offered designs in this ultra-current style.
5. Er, Underwear?
There was a definite sauciness to the gowns this season, with designers such as Vera Wang daring to bare in a big way. Strategically placed lace and beaded appliques amidst placed panels of transparency gave an ethereal and almost fragile look to gowns that were more reminiscent of the wedding night than the wedding day.
