Here’s the latest by our Mpls.St.Paul Weddings guest blogger and contributor, Colleen Powers:
This weekend’s Designer Meet and Greet at Joynoelle Boutique is exciting for all seven Twin Cities designers showing off their 2011 collections. The event carries even more meaning for designer Laura Nelli of Nelle Handbags, however: She’s a customer, too.
“I’m a bride-to-be myself, so I’m coming at it from a bride-to-be’s viewpoint,” Nelli says. “I’m dying to [ask] Emily J. what I should do with my hair!”
The two-day event, October 22-23, will offer brides advice and inspiration for their big day, as designers show off what’s in store for the year ahead.
It’s a blockbuster lineup: Nelli’s handbags and accessories, Emily Koski of Emily J. providing hair and makeup insights, Lisa Roy of Flora Bella on flower arrangements, Molly Sullivan of Apiary Design on stationery trends, Emily Snyder of Queen Quills providing calligraphy tips, Penny Larson showing off her amazing jewelry, and Joy Teiken displaying her Joynoelle gowns.
Friday’s program runs from 5 to 8 p.m. and kicks off with a fashion presentation and trunk show, with champagne and chocolates for all. Models will show off ensembles that mingle the designers’ best gowns, handbags, jewelry, and hair and makeup. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, brides can sign up for wedding consultations with the designers (first come, first served) and purchase pieces from their collections. Both days are free and open to the public.
Teiken masterminded the event, gathering a group of designers with similar approaches to wedding fashion and décor.
“[A wedding] is an opportunity to celebrate love, but also a moment to personalize things more than your average big-box store would,” Nelli says. “It’s about making things a little more intimate and being more hands-on.”
With their fingers on the pulse of wedding trends, Teiken and Nelli say blush tones are growing in popularity. Teiken adds that more brides are adding to their gowns “a little pop of color—really pretty and subtle, nothing too shocking.”
This weekend’s event will benefit brides at all stages of wedding planning, Nelli says, and it’s open to “anyone looking for beautiful things in their life right now.”
The Designer Meet and Greet will take place at Joynoelle Boutique and Atelier, 312 W. 42nd St., Mpls. For more information, call 612-209-7822.
