Woodbury's Dale Road Open Space and Off-Leash Dog Park
Woodbury's Dale Road Open Space and Off-Leash Dog Park is 70 acres of mowed trails and doggy freedom.
It may be strategically located along I-494, I-694, and I-94, but Woodbury is no bedroom community. The city is home to several large employers, including HealthEast and Target.com—and just across the highway is 3M. It also has two of Minnesota’s top 25 high schools and a range of parks and athletic fields, making it a desirable family locale. “While Woodbury is the 10th-largest city in Minnesota, people report that Woodbury has a small-town atmosphere and they feel connected,” says Woodbury mayor and 31-year resident Mary Giuliani Stephens.
Originally named Red Rock, after a rock supposedly painted by Dakota Chief Little Crow, the name was changed to Woodbury to honor a friend of the town’s first board chairman. Woodbury was largely a farming community, also known for its excellent one-room schools, with some students continuing their education at nearby St. Paul College. Suburban expansion reached Woodbury in the 1960s, prompting the development of residential and commercial areas, which replaced its signature farmland.
Woodbury is among the fastest-growing cities in the state, tripling in size from 1990 to 2010, so most housing options, from homes to condos, luxury apartments to townhomes, have been built within the past 20 years. Many of those built earlier have been renovated as well, making turnkey real estate in a wide variety of price ranges standard across town.
