Sex and the City Premiere Party

So it wasn’t exactly a night in Manhattan or a Hollywood premiere, but the ladies of the Twin Cities still dressed to impress and headed to Bellanotte for Friday night’s Sex and the City premiere party. Friends, coworkers, sisters, and mother/daughter pairs—accompanied by the occasional loyal manfriend—donned heels, miniskirts, and red carpet style to celebrate the most anticipated movie premiere of Manolo-lovers’ lives. (Though, as much as coworker Melissa Colgan and I searched, there was nary a Manolo in sight.)

The event was plugged as the official premiere party for the movie and a “red carpet event” but lacked the movie (ladies had to walk their four-inch heels over to Block E to see the film), a red carpet other than Bellanotte’s usual worn welcome rug, which happens to be red, or any notable names. But event sponsor Skyy vodka’s candy-colored, SATC-inspired cosmopolitans were flowing as freely as the movie’s biggest secrets—so few seemed to notice.

The party got started early on the patio where the DJ spun SATC-inspired music circa 2001. And though the ladies ruled the outdoor roost early on, the guys in the bar eventually caught wind of the lady-laden event and wandered outside for some prime mingling time.

Inside was a different story where two rooms decked out in pink and silver balloons, enormous cupcakes, and pink plaques featuring quotes from show, such as Carrie’s classic “Men may have discovered fire, but women discovered how to play with it,” seemed to keep the guys at bay. Ladies lounged on the sofas—more of them sipping those same candy-colored cosmos than not—while next door Jewel Spa had set up shop to offer massages and manicures, two keys to keeping a girl fabulous.

The night may have lacked the big names of a Hollywood premiere and the big price tag of a night in Manhattan, but it gave ladies a chance to put on their Friday best and celebrate Sex—and themselves—in the City.
