In a festive mash-up of holiday spirit and fashion, the Galleria has dressed itself up for the holidays with 12 original gowns by local designers—one for each of the 12 Days of Christmas.
The 12 Days of Dresses exhibit is on display now in the Pottery Barn atrium at the Edina shopping center.
The exhibit was curated by fashion stylist and producer Grant Whittaker, who selected the dozen designers and assigned each a verse, from the five golden rings to two turtle doves. The personality of each designer shines through, says Whittaker. The pieces, he adds, are imaginative, but actually wearable.
Details to look for: the 11 Pipers Piping on the Hiccup by Handley piece. “It looks like the holiday version of Clueless,” says Whittaker. Mimi Nguyen of House of Nguyen created a modern version of a Beatles coat. “it looks like it stepped out of The Beatles show in Vegas.”
More to note: Danielle Everine’s knitting, Samantha Rei’s corsetry, Anna Chambers-Goldberg of ACG’s hand-dying, and Megan Zwack of Dr. Zwack’s vibrant chartreuse.
Whittaker will point out more highlights of the gowns this weekend on Kare11 Saturday, when the show broadcasts live from Galleria. Mpls.St.Paul Magazine Style Editor Allison Kaplan will be there as well, offering gift ideas for $50 or less.
The 12 Days of Dresses exhibits will be on display at Galleria through Dec. 30.
