The Vintage Gypsy in Prior Lake

This will go down as the summer that downtown Prior Lake came to life. We know what you’re thinking: Yes, Prior Lake has a downtown! And in just the last few months, four new boutiques have opened on and around Main Avenue, all owned by Prior Lake women who were tired of trekking to the malls.
“This has been such a need in Prior Lake,” says Beth Gassen, owner of the new gg Boutique. “People here really want to support local.”
That’s been apparent since Prior Lake native Marie Boucher-Hoese opened The Vintage Gypsy five years ago. The artfully merchandised, one-of-a-kind shop features a mix of old and new for the home and wardrobe. “She was the pioneer,” Gassen says. “We all saw how busy she was and knew there was room for more.”
Here’s the latest:
The retail experience grew out of co-owner Cate Mezyk’s style blog by the same name. Initially, she and partner Tammy Hiveley rented space to local makers. This summer, they settled into a larger spot a few doors down, offering a curated assortment of women’s apparel and accessories with a modern boho vibe, plus gifts and home accessories with rustic-meets-whimsical charm.

This is the first flagship store for the 6-year-old company, which makes workout headbands sold in more than 800 stores nationwide. The shop also features studio scarves, T-shirts, and other line extensions that founder Jen Joas is developing. “If customers get excited about the new products,” Joas says, “then we can put them into production.”
It started as a blog and became an online store five years ago, but owner Chris Ann Brekhus says it’s been a lifelong dream to have a brick-and-mortar store, filled with a modern mix of home accessories, jewelry, and gifts.
