Pacifier's owner Wing Witthuhn gets a makeover
Now that Pacifier has been made over, owner Wing Witthuhn decided she wanted a makeover, too.
As soon as every onesie was in its place at the beautiful new Pacifier store in the North Loop, co-owner Wing Witthuhn panicked.
“It’s such a nice space,” Witthuhn says. “I feel like I need to look nicer.”
She’s been helping us pick out the perfect baby gifts for a dozen years, but in that time, Witthuhn hasn’t done much shopping for herself. Trust me—I’ve been to her closet.
“I am essentially tired of wearing the same jeans and top my husband gets me every year for Christmas,” she confessed to me back in January. “I am 43, and I am in dire need of a makeover.”
Routines can become ruts. Moving to the North Loop was a wakeup call for Witthuhn in the best possible way. It’s not about keeping up with the cool kids—for Witthuhn, it was about affording herself a moment— between being a mom and running four stores and a website— to do something crazy, like try on a dress.
But the boutiques in Witthuhn’s new North Loop neighborhood, with their designer labels and sleek aesthetics, can seem a bit intimidating. So I connected her with Anthony Chow and Jessica Bergsten of the styling service Tastemakers, Etc. And I’ll admit that even as I assured Witthuhn they wouldn’t force her out of her comfort zone, I worried a bit about how much this stylish duo would push. No need. Chow, who is also the style curator at D.NOLO next door to Pacifier, and Bergsten helped Witthuhn make small but meaningful updates that feel true to her character, and lifestyle.
Goes to show: Spending on a styling service might mean buying less, but smarter.
A closet cleanse made room for new clothes, and helped identify holes. “Oh my gosh—I have a lot of gray,” Witthuhn realized. “I always avoided prints and colors, but now I see I have to try them on.”
