If you think shopping secondhand means digging through racks of stained and smelly clothes, Daune Stinson’s resale boutique, June, will change your mind. Nestled on a quiet part of Lyndale Avenue in south Minneapolis, June carries a tightly edited selection of high-end designer clothing, shoes, handbags, and accessories. It’s all presented in a clean and open environment.
June boasts an unfussy refinement not common to a resale boutique. Vintage rugs top original hardwood floors, setting the backdrop for plush ottomans and black velvet Louis XV–style chairs; crimson velvet drapes add swank to minimalist dressing rooms; and vintage-style shelving houses near-mint handbags, shoes, scarves, and jewelry. Keeping with the pared-down sophistication, the clothing is relegated to racks on the sides of the space so the center aisle stays uncluttered.
Stinson, a former journalist, wanted a selective, uncomplicated look. “I love the thrill of the hunt. I love shopping thrift and resale and finding something great for nothing, but I wanted June to have more of a boutique feel.”
Essentially, Stinson’s discerning eye sources the merchandise from a small coterie of fashionable and well-to-do Twin Citians (who often shop directly from look books or off the runway). On any given day, we’ve spotted gowns by Alberta Ferretti, pumps by Manolo Blahnik and Prada, knee-high suede boots from YSL and Gucci, skirts by Alexander McQueen and Lanvin, and premium denim from Rock and Republic, Seven for all Mankind, and Joe’s Jeans. Most everything still has tags attached, all of it is in mint condition, and, shockingly, most of it is as well priced as anything you’ll find at tony consignment shops.3406 Lyndale Ave. S., Mpls., 612-354-3970, juneresale.com
