After the winter we’ve endured, spring’s palest shades and biggest flowers are more enticing than ever. The shapes and colors may look familiar, but this season’s trends offer a chance to make a departure from your standard styling and mix it up a bit: a retro sneaker with a dress, a tea-length skirt with a fitted shirt. Get ready for a fresh start.

Go big, go floral. This year’s floral prints are blooming bigger and bolder than in seasons past.

Off the golf course. Hate to break it to country club loyalists, but the cool kids have adopted your go-to pattern. In blush and blue, the look is decidedly modern.
Blazer ($278), by Joie, from Bumbershute; white tank ($85), by Alexander Wang, from Bumbershute; plaid pants ($345), by Steven Alan, from Grethen House; Unissa flats ($60), from Aldo; necklace ($128), by House of Harlow 1960, from Nordstrom; rings ($30 each), by boe, from Parc Boutique
Run for it. This could be the best fashion development ever: Running shoes are the statement of the season. Try them with a dressier look—even leather.
Pale it down. A fitted top with a longer skirt is one of our favorite silhouettes this season—especially in light neutrals, which look so fresh. Show some personality by amping up the accessories. (Two statement necklaces are better than one!)
Cashmere top ($395), by Nordstrom Signature, from Nordstrom; draped skirt ($150), by Emma Berg, from Motto; green stone and rhinestone necklace ($148), by Kate Spade, from Melly; multi-colored stone necklace ($125), from Nordstrom; handbag ($295), by Rebecca Minkoff, sandals ($158.95), by Dolce Vita, both from Nordstrom
Mixed media. It’s all in the details, like sheer mesh sleeves to give a sporty vibe to a floral panel top.
Beyond Canada. The much-maligned denim-on-denim look known as the Canadian tuxedo is now cool. That’s fashion! A great update: the railroad jacket.
Game on. Athletic influences take on serious style, like a skirt in mesh neoprene and basics bejeweled.
