Name: Karen Cayetano Leano.
Hometown: East Hanover, NJ.
Current neighborhood: Apple Valley.
Profession: Jewelry designer/production manager.
As a jewelry designer, how do you style your outfits around attention-grabbing accessories? I usually keep my outfits casual chic so my accessories take the spotlight. In the spring, you’ll usually find me in a pair of jeans with a flowy woven top and a statement necklace to dress up the outfit. In the winter I live in chunky cable knit sweaters, leggings, and necklace parties. Aside from my jewelry, the only other parts of my outfits that make a statement are my shoes.
Favorite stores in the Twin Cities? Parc Boutique, Goodnight Moon, and I love treasure hunting at Style Encore in Eagan. It’s a second hand store where I love to scour the racks to find one-of-a-kind items. My proudest finds to date are a white BCBG tuxedo blazer (brand new, with the tags still in tact), and black Givenchy heels.
Floral or stripes? Stripes.
Who’s your style icon: Olivia Palermo.
The go-to item in your closet is: A blazer. I feel like it pulls any look together.
What’s your favorite fashion trend for spring: I am really loving the loose, lightweight trench coats in spring—especially in the soft blue shade. It’s so perfect for layering without looking too stuffy.
Statement necklace or arm party? Statement necklace.
That first day of warm weather outfit you’ve been dreaming of is: A casual grey v-neck tee tucked into my black leather pencil skirt, black peep toe booties with chunky wooden heels, a loose lightweight trench, and an armful of druzy bracelets from my collection.
On a Friday night we would find you . . . Snuggled up in a large couch having coffee with my girlfriend in a local coffee shop.
What’s the one accessory you won’t leave home without: My oversized black face gold Michael Kors watch. My wrist is tiny so this watch looks huge on my wrist and I love it—it puts the finishing touch on all my looks.
Describe your style aesthetic in three words: Feminine laidback glam.
Flatforms or heels? Heels.
First place you would take out-of-towners when they visit: Minnehaha Falls. I’m in love with this park, the view is just so breathtaking.
Favorite brunch spot in the Cities: Keys Café. I’m a sucker for the loon omelet.
If you had to pick only one brand/designer to be dressed in, which would it be? Rebecca Taylor. I love her aesthetic. It’s romantic and girly with a touch of sophistication.
