Finally, the $35 blowout comes to Grand Avenue in St. Paul. The Wow Bar is opening a second Twin Cities location at Grand and Lexington. The 50th & France-based blow dry bar just signed a lease on the former Stella Blu space, just west of Lexington Avenue.
But that's not the only wow: Wow Bar has also leased the salon that adjoins its Edina location to none other than Denny Kemp Salon. The space has been empty for a few months, since Wow Bar parted ways with partner Jason Deavalon. Kemp won't get involved in the Wow business, but being in the same building made sense, Wow owner Parrel Caplan says, since the two share the same upscale clientele. "We had others interested in the space," Caplan says, "but he was our first choice." Kemp, whose haircuts run $180 at his Northeast Minneapolis salon, will spend a couple of days at the 50th & France location, which will also be staffed by a team of his stylists.
Wow Bar has set the standard among Twin Cities blow dry bars, with attention to detail—from warm towels to phone charging stations—and consistently well trained stylists. Caplan says the Edina location is regularly sold out on Saturdays. "We thought about expanding that location, but it made better sense to add more locations." Wow is not the only blow dry bar looking east: Blast Blow Dry Bar plans to open its fourth Twin Cities location in Woodbury.
Both Wow Bar on Grand, and Denny Kemp in Edina are scheduled to open in November.
