In the throws of young love and a heady engagement, silver seems necessary—the cornerstone of a marriage built to last. After the honeymoon, the tarnish begins to show. Those fancy silver pieces take up space, rarely see the light of day, and are a pain to polish.
Julia Moss was well into that stage of realization when she happened upon a powder coated vintage tray at a store in California, and returned to Minneapolis on a mission. She learned everything she could about powder coating with the help of her son, a car buff. She found what she says is the best of the Twin Cities powder coaters, and had them turn her tarnished silver trays and serving pieces into pop art décor in high gloss hot pink, gold, black, and every shade in between.
Now, Moss can’t vouch for the safety of eating off these coated pieces, but they’re a whole lot of fun as accents or décor. Prices start at $45 for small dishes; figure anywhere from $350 to $775 for a tray. It is silver, after all.
