It's a big day for Golden Age Design: Bill and Kara Kurth are finally—and I mean, finally—opening the doors of their Mid-century furniture showroom in Robbinsdale, nearly two years after taking the space. Gulp.
"It's ok . . . we expect some crap," the couple wrote to supporters on their Kickstarter blog. Both have day jobs and have been spending every spare rehabbing the century-old storefront across the street from Pig Ate My Pizza. That, on top of the actual business: restoring Mid Century and Danish modern furniture, which they've been selling direct through social channels. Oh, and raising two busy little boys.
"When we decided to take Golden Age to the next level . . . we had no idea what kind of blood, sweat and tears would be given to follow a dream and see this through to completion," the Kurths said. "Honestly, it's been hard. Looking back, we should have expected the process to take longer and cost much more than ever expected."
But late nights, lost weekends and raw hands have paid off. Their showroom is clean and bright with plenty of space to showcase Golden Age's one-of-a-kind designs, in addition to accessories and art. They've also created a second studio space in the back of the shop that is currently available for rent.
