Surrounded by enterprising local brands selling everything from lipstick to sports gear, you'd never guess you were standing in a former Deb store. I got a preview of Shop Local, the ambitious holiday pop-up market opening Friday at Mall of America. The two dozen participants are bringing their A-game—that is, no folding tables in sight. Each brand has created a furnished space of its own, and you really do get the feeling that you're walking through a little market. Right there, in Sears Court!
Minnesota United FC at Shop Local MOA
One of my favorite discoveries was Minnesota United FC—soccer merchandise is super cool! Not an oversized sweatshirt in sight. You'll find the United's loon logo on hip Ebbets gray flannel baseball hats, knit beanies, sleek scarves, t-shirts and more. Next door, Mill City Fineries managed to create a cozy space, complete with a fireplace…on screen.
Elixery at Shop Local MOA
It's also fun to see local cosmetics company Elixery out in the world, with all of their lip colors and fragrances there for the sampling.
dpHUE at Shop Local MOA
And right next to them, Edina-based hair color company dpHUE showcases some of its newest products, like the popular Apple Cider Vinegar Hair Rinse, and the new "Love is in the Hair" zip pouches—a perfect gift for the mane person on your gift list.
Shop Local opens for the holiday season on Black Friday, 6 a.m. First floor, Sears Court, near Santa Land.
