Poppy found its niche as a destination for everyday dresses, and doesn’t shy away from color and pattern (think Desigual). “I’ve created an environment where women feel comfortable experimenting,” owner Jill Henderson says. After a few years in the trenches, growing the St. Paul store while carrying for her young twins, she feels ready to branch out, and a short-term lease at Mama's Happy is the perfect way to test the waters.
Poppy will take over the portion of Twiggs formerly occupied by Mama’s Happy (which opened its own storefront on Excelsior Boulevard in St. Louis Park). At around 1,000 square feet., there’s space to add fitting rooms.
“It will for sure look like Poppy," Henderson says. "Cotton tunics, screen printed t-shirts. We’ll experiment a little over there."
Her goal is to open in time for Linden Hills Spring Festival on May 17.
