I expected Madewell to jump on the Ridgedale Center bandwagon when Nordstrom, and an entirely new wing opened at the Minnetonka mall last fall. That hasn't happened yet, but Nordstrom is picking up the slack, adding a Madewell department at Nordstrom Ridgedale as part of a 25-store expansion launching next week.
Madewell, which opened its first store in 2006, has become the darling of the J.Crew family, outperforming the mothership with a tighter focus on youthful women's apparel with a sexy tomboy vibe. Denim and tees are mainstays of the Madewell collection, but daytime dresses, sweaters, leather bags and shoes and affordable jewelry are big crowd pleasers.
Madewell spring 2016
Madewell partnered with the department store early last year, opening at 15 Nordstrom stores. For J.Crew's little sister, it was a way to amplify the brand without the overhead of opening storefronts. For Nordstrom, it filled a void for young female shoppers, who tend to favor single brand stores like Madewell or Top Shop (another Nordstrom partner) over department stores.
The partnership has been a hit, with Nordstom doubling its Madwell presence last summer, and now, adding 25 more stores for spring.
Madewell's spring collection debuting at Nordstrom stores on Feb. 23 includes jeans, button down shirts, jackets and accessories from $19.50 to $372.50.
Madewell has stores in the Twin Cities at Mall of America and Southdale Center.
