We have San Francisco's ridiculously expensive real estate to thank for Joel and Lauren Gryniewski moving to the Twin Cities with their card business, Old Tom Foolery. They got the house they wanted, but even that wasn't enough space for their budding business, which now includes a second, photo-driven card line, Modern Lore. Their cards are sold at Nordstrom, Paper Source, and boutiques nationwide. So the couple rented office space in Minneapolis with room for a storefront. Greater Goods is now open on Eat Street—yes, 25th & Nicollet, where the only things to buy beyond food and drink have long been of the vintage variety. The Gryniewskis are already embracing their neighbors—pledging to donate a portion of proceeds from their first year of business to Minneapolis College of Art and Design. The shop features a small assortment of pillows, lotions, jewelry, and other small gifts. But, of course, the focus is cards and paper goods, with a small writing corner and a mailbox to seal the sentiment. Mine is this: Delighted! 2515 Nicollet Ave. S., Mpls.
