The reincarnation of Epitome Papers is complete, and open for shopping on Water Street in Excelsior. Merchandise is still arriving, but for now, the petite shop is overwhelmingly focused on invitations and upscale stationery. There are picture frames and ring holders and journals, but far fewer of the small gift-y items Epitome Papers offered at Galleria. Of course, custom invitation services were always the bread and butter of the business, and even under new ownership, key longtime employees made the move, which helps with a smooth transition. A grand opening celebration takes place this weekend, Friday, May 13 to Sunday, May 15.
And after the invitation comes…the event! The Golden Rule has transformed the second floor of the converted home the store occupies into a chic, petite event space called Workshop @Golden Rule. In keeping with the Golden Rule’s clean, modern aesthetic, Workshop is equally Instagram-ready with white walls, whitewashed floors, wooden beams, the requisite leafy greens, and a long table ready for intimate gatherings. The space, which includes a kitchen, is available for rent (it would be lovely for a bridal shower), and will be used to offer classes and seminars.
Tickets are still available for the inaugural Workshop event, an Art in Healing Necklace Workshop. Golden Rule founder and jewelry designer Erin Kate Duininck will lead a discussion of how art can be a healing tool, and participants will then get to create their own “Sorrow and Joy” necklace. The event takes place Wednesday, May 18. Tickets are $85.
