Motto has closed at 31st and Hennepin in Minneapolis, but don't count the independent home and fashion boutique out just yet. Owners Maria Walker and Maryn Bulygo say they are currently looking for a new location—they even asked their fans on Facebook where they would like to see Motto set up shop.
Motto—MplsSt.Paul Magazine's 2012 Best New Lifestyle Boutique—with its west coast take on contemporary fashion, gifts and home furnishings, was situated just past the Uptown action, in the house across the street from cb2. The three-level house is best known as the longtime home to popular boutique Intoto, which closed when the owner retired a few years ago (her buyers went on to open Arrow in the North Loop). Building a new audience is never easy, and Walker and Bulygo certainly have given it their all—participating in local fashion shows, staging markets outside their store with other local vendors, supporting local designers. They aren't giving up. Walker says she and Bulygo are improving their website for online sales and planning a summer pop-up shop. Stay tuned.
