Mall of America is teaming up with FlyOver America LTD on a $20 million flight simulation ride that will open at Nickelodeon Universe next year.
Developed by the team behind the popular FlyOver Canada in Vancouver, the new MOA attraction will suspend guests 10 to 25 feet above ground to experience the sensation of flight as they move in concert with a film and special effects. FlyOver describes it as an immersive experience that includes wind, mist, and even scents while soaring across some of America’s most spectacular sights. It’s suitable for ages 4 and older.
This is a major undertaking—the attraction will take about a year to build, with a worldwide team of technicians, manufacturers and consultants, including former Disney “Imagineer” Rick Rothschild. Meanwhile, production is currently underway for the FlyOver America film—the crew will visit every region of the country and capture every season, filming from a helicopter.
This is FlyOver’s first U.S. attraction, which is just the kind of exclusivity Mall of America prides itself on.
“We looked at many sites around the world before choosing Mall of America and the state of Minnesota,” said FlyOver co-founder Andrew Stang. “We couldn’t imagine a better home for our first FlyOver America and are honored to launch at this world-renowned location.”
FlyOver America will be located in the southwest corner of Nickelodeon Universe. Construction is set to begin April 20.
