Mama's Happy home
When you own a store that sells upcycled furniture, paint, and promotes all things DIY out of an historic building, it's only natural that customers would wonder what your personal residence looks like. For the first time, Amanda Ficek is hosting tours of her residence in Independence, Minn, which is above the Mama's Happy Occasional Store in the historic Lyndale Creamery, built in 1894. "Customers of the occasional shop are so interested in the building and its history, renovation, and decoration that they frequently ask for tours," says spokeswoman Amy Herbert.

The tours take place Wednesday through Saturday. Each 20-minute tour will showcase the latest trends in upcycled and repurposed decor and do-it-yourself refinishing. A $5 minimum donation is suggested, with all tour proceeds benefitting a local women's safe shelter. Make your reservation online. The tours will start at the store, 7888 Watertown Road, Independence.
Mama's Happy also has stores with regular retail hours in St. Louis Park and St. Paul.
