L.L. Bean, Maine’s century-old recreational apparel brand, will open its first store west of the Mississippi, at Mall of America. The brand epitomized by the “Bean Boot” and known for its “100 percent satisfaction guarantee,” will take a chunk of the former Bloomingdale’s space: 29,000 square feet on the first level of the southeast court with both interior and exterior access to the mall. This will be one of L.L. Bean’s largest stores, featuring active and causal apparel and footwear for men, women, and children, plus hiking, fly-fishing, kayaking, winter gear, and camping products.
“We feel Maine and Minnesota are kindred states with abundant natural resources and an appreciation for the environment,” L.L. Bean spokesman Mac McKeever says.
As a company that sells merchandise for an active lifestyle, L.L. Bean attempts to “activate the shopping experience,” McKeever says, with demonstrations, clinics and its Outdoor Discovery School. Customers will be able to sign up in store for introductory hands-on activities around town, such as fly casting, geocaching, and stand-up paddle boarding. L.L. Bean provides equipment and expert instruction for free or a nominal fee.
L.L. Bean is scheduled to open in mid-November. The store will employ 120—L.L. Bean is now hiring.
