This is the week: Nordstrom Rack opens at the newly anointed Shoppes at Knollwood in St. Louis Park on Thursday. Doors open at 9 a.m., but Nordstrom Rack will attempt to drum up excitement with a "Rally at the Rack" starting at 8 a.m., including music, coffee, and breakfast treats. Customers 18 and older can enter for a chance to win one of 30 $100 gift cards. One grand prize winner will receive a $1,000 shopping spree and early access to shop the store. The first 1,000 customers who make a purchase will receive a complimentary Nordstrom Rack tote.
This is Nordstrom Rack's third Twin Cities location, and it is the exclamation point on the $32 million reinvention of Knollwood, which had struggled since its 1980's heyday, but remained near and dear to many a nostalgic shopper. If you've avoided Knollwood, at Hwys. 7 and 169, during construction, you'll find it transformed into an outdoor center—gone is that cavernous indoor corridor. Foss Swim School expanded and now has its own entrance, and Panera moved to a satellite location in the parking lot. The Rack is one of several new tenants, including Smashburger, now open. Plus size clothing chain Torrid is scheduled to open May 1, followed by beauty store Ulta later in May. Sports Clips and Blaze Pizza will open this summer. Existing tenants include Kohl's, DSW, Old Navy, T.J. Maxx Home Goods (arguably the best one in town), and Cub Foods.
Knollwood was recently acquired by Heitman in Chicago, which says more new tenant announcements are coming. A grand reopening of Shoppes at Knollwood is planned for May 9.
