Two days before opening its first Twin Cities store in the North Loop, the buzzy new lifestyle brand Kit and Ace is announcing its second metro location, at Mall of America. The store will open in the fall on the first floor, south side—home to many of the mall's most upscale tenants.
Kit and Ace sells luxury basics for women and men made of a proprietary technical cashmere. But while the idea of machine washable cashmere is intriguing, it's the people behind the brand that are the reason for all the advance excitement: the wife and son of lululemon founder Chip Wilson.
The new Canadian-based company is expanding quickly, with more than a dozen stores currently under construction across the U.S., including Detroit, Denver, and Dallas, and plans for as many as 50 this year.
Kit and Ace North Loop opens Thursday, June 4 on the second floor of 113 N. Washington Ave. in Minneapolis, above Roe Wolfe. The brand's community outreach started months ago with a Kit and Ace Supper Club designed to bring together people who don't know each other. Community engagement is central to the brand building strategy for this company that specializes in T-shirts, tanks, and sweaters intended to be a step up from workout clothes. The outreach will continue once the store opens, with art shows and other events planned for the expansive space.
