After just a little more than a year in business, women’s designer boutique House of 365 is closing. The reasons are numerous and complicated, I’m sure, but it’s hard not to wonder if that sprawling space on Lake Street in Wayzata, which has housed, and lost, a steady stream of retailers before this, including Ampersand and La Petite Parfumerie, is just a little bit tainted. The location seems ideal—visible as you enter downtown Wayzata, close to the new multi-use development, which includes Lunds & Byerly’s Kitchen, steps from D’Amico and Starbucks with a parking lot all its own.
But it is sweeping space that invites big dreams. Perhaps too big, for a small retailer. Bigger the space, bigger the demands, which can sometimes be tough to appreciate through the sexy haze of a new fashion endeavor. House of 365 owner Kathy Bryan took on a lot: Everything from lingerie to footwear, dress and casual apparel to fragrance. While it was exciting to see all of that, done so tastefully, in Wayzata, it’s tough to dabble in a ton of categories—especially with a spanking new Nordrstom just up the highway.
The announcement comes just a month after Maha! Boutique closed in Wayzata, ending its six year run on Lake Street.
House of 365 will remain open through March 31. Currently, just about everything in the store is 40 percent off including SAM and Mackage coats, Letarte resort wear, DVF shoes, Vince staples, beauty products, accessories, and intimate apparel. 750 E. Lake St., Wayzata, 952-473-2311, houseof365.com
