After setting a Guinness World Record last year for most money raised for charity through haircuts in a 24-hour period (we were there, and so was former Minnesota Vikings punter Chris Kluwe), Aveda is gearing up for another Earth Month Cut-a-Thon on Monday, April 7. Aveda students and stylists in salons worldwide will volunteer their time to offer haircuts in return for a donation to Earth Month. This kicks off Aveda's month-long effort to raise $6 million globally for clean water related causes.
At the Aveda Institute in Minneapolis, haircuts during the Cut-a-Thon are just $10 and 100 percent of the money raised will support clean water locally through the Audubon Mississippi River Initiative. Call 612-331-1400 for a cut-a-thon appointment, available Monday from 2 to 7 p.m. Hand, neck, and shoulder massages and makeup touch ups will also be available, for donation. 400 Central Ave. S.E., Mpls.
If you can't make it Monday, help the cause throughout April by buying a limited-edition Light the Way Candle. Aveda donates the entire $12 purchase price to Global Greengrants Fund, a non-profit that supports grassroots groups working on environmental problems around the world. The soy wax candle comes in a glass container made from 100 percent reclaimed beverage bottles.
