On the heels of Cyber Monday, and after a weekend of aggressive consumption (and hopefully some thanks), comes Giving Tuesday, a day dedicated to giving back. Companies and organizations of all sorts and sizes are jumping on the bandwagon and using tomorrow to raise money for various causes.
Locally, Edina-based Evereve (formerly Hot Mama), will kick off its Giving is Hot campaign with shopping parties Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at three locations: Wayzata, 50th & France and Shops at West End. During the party, 15 percent of sales will be donated to Opportunity International, which provides loans, insurance, and businesses training to women in developing countries to create jobs and break the cycle of poverty.
“There’s so much dignity involved when people are empowered with a loan, and are able to buy their own food, their own clothes,” says Tamte, who has been working with Opportunity International for three years. This year, Evereve hopes to raise $100,000 for the cause.
The giving will continue throughout December. All month long, Evereve will give $10 to Opportunity International for every pair of jeans sold. And 20 percent of every purchase of the new gold plated Evereve logo necklace ($38), will also go to Opportunity International.
