Wayzata’s hot streak continues with another boutique opening: MERILOU. Smaller and more understated than the other new kid on the block, House of 365, MERILOU is filled with an approachable mix of classic and contemporary pieces. Nothing too wild and crazy or overly trend-driven—just on-point sweaters, versatile tops, skinny jeans, and dresses. In an effort to be a one-stop shop, there’s also a small but sharp assortment of shoes and booties, plus jewelry and handbags from local designers, bath and body products, and lingerie. Prices start in the "wow, what a find" range, with many tops for less than $60.
MERILOU came together quickly—literally three months after Orono resident Keaton Frees mentioned to her husband how much she’d like to have a boutique of her own, and he convinced her to go for it. Frees has experience in business and interior design; this is her first foray into fashion, but she appears to be a quick study. Her business partner Christina (Chrissy) Boyd is a Wayzata financial planner—which is a distinct advantage for a small startup. 726 E. Lake St., Wayzata, 952-476-0027
